Clarkson men finish sixth, women place ninth at Libety League Swimming Championships

ROCHESTER –- Freshman Nick Short (Endwell, NY) placed inside the top 10 in two events and helped score points in seven different events to help lead the Clarkson University Swimming team at the Liberty League Championships held this weekend at RIT’s Judson Pool.

The Golden Knights’ men finished sixth among the nine teams in the Liberty League, while the women placed ninth out of 10 squads.

Clarkson is off for the remainder of the semester and will return to action on January 12th when the men participate in the Kumpf Invitationl at Rensselaer. Both the men and women will face Utica College in a dual meet on January 19th at Fuller Pool.

Short had the best weekend of any Clarkson swimmer, taking seventh in the 400 individual medley (4:32.55) and ninth in the 200 butterfly (2:07.00). Short also claimed points in the 200 individual medley by taking 13th (2:04.57).

The freshman also participated on three relay teams that gained points in sixth (200 medley, 400 medley, and 200 freestyle) and a seventh-place 400 freestyle relay squad.

Seniors Paul Telesca (Liverpool, NY) and Sean Parnett (Clifton Park, NY) each gained points in a pair of events as well, with Telesca taking 11th in the 100 freestyle (49.18) and 12th in the 50 freestyle (22.17) and Parnett coming in 10th in the 200 butterfly (2:08.91) and 12th in the 1650 freestyle (18:05.92).

Telesca also swam on all four of Clarkson’s top relays, and Parnett was a part of the seventh-place 400 freestyle relay.

Freshmen Jon Ketcham (East Aurora, NY) and Sam Zagrobelny (East Aurora, NY) also gained points for the Knights’ men in individual events, with Ketcham finishing in 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.83) and following that up with a 13th-place showing in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.68) and Zagrobelny gaining the 12th spot in the 100 butterfly (55.00).

Both swimmers were also on a pair of Clarkson’s top relay teams over the weekend as well.
