Troy, NY - Mirroring the effort of its women's team, Rensselaer scored what proved to be the game-winning goal early, just three minutes into the game, en route to a 2-0 win over the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team Saturday afternoon at the Engineer's East Campus Stadium.

The Golden Knights fell to 1-9-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the Liberty League, while Rensselaer improved to 8-3-3 and 4-1-1. Clarkson will take a break from conference action when it visits SUNY Canton on Wednesday.

The Engineers' quick strike came in the third minute by junior Joey Eilert, who headed in a cross from Matt Koziol from five yards. For Eilert, the goal was the first of his career, while the assist was the first for Koziol, a sophomore. Adam Updegrove gave the Engineers a 2-0 lead four minutes into the second half when he collected a loose ball at 13 yards and scored into the left side of the net for his second of the year.

Sophomore Rob Dewald earned the victory with two saves for RPI, while Clarkson senior goalkeeper Saverino Spagnolo (Ottawa, ONT) stopped three saves in the loss. Rensselaer held a 17-4 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.
