Behind the first career two-goal game from veteran Troy Josephs and a solid 32-save outing by senior Ville Runola the Clarkson University Hockey team broke out of a three-game slide with a 4-2 ECAC Hockey victory over Princeton before 2,516 fans at Cheel Arena on Saturday night.

Clarkson improves to 4-5-1 overall and to 1-1 in ECAC Hockey action. The Golden Knights take to the road next weekend playing in New York's Capital District region, facing Rensselaer and Union.

Princeton held a slight 34-32 edge in shots, but Runola, making his first start in nearly two years, came through with a much needed steady game in the Clarkson crease to post his second career victory and first since winning his collegiate debut on January 10, 2014, 3-2 over Merrimack.

Princeton (0-3-0, 0-2-0) opened the scoring with a power-play goal from Ryan Siiro at 8:04, but just over two minutes later the Knights tied it up.

Josephs took a pass off the back boards from freshman defenseman Greg Moro and jammed in a shot at the side of the net at 10:47 for his second goal of the season. Junior defenseman Terrance Amorosa, playing in his first game of the season, started the play to record an assist.

Clarkson took its first lead of the weekend, early in the second period when junior Sam Vigneault one-timed a pass from senior Jordan Boucher from the left circle at 6:05. Amorosa picked up his second assist of the night.

The Tigers made it 2-2 at 1:19 of the final frame on a goal by Ryan Kuffner, but once again Clarkson struck quickly to regain the lead.

At 4:33, Josephs took a pass out front from Vigneault and knocked in his third goal of the season. Boucher also assisted on his senior linemate's second goal of the game.

With under a minute to play Princeton pulled goaltender Colton Phinney for the extra attacker, but the Green and Gold held off the Tigers and sealed the victory with Moro's first career goal, an empty netter with 25 seconds left. Freshman Nico Sturm also assisted.

The Knights went scoreless in three power play opportunities and killed off five of six Princeton man-advantages.
