Sophomore Kerrie Cline (Tuxedo, NY) scored four goals to pace the offense for the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team, but the Golden Knights could not recover from a slow start and fell to William Smith 21-13 in Geneva, NY on Saturday afternoon in Liberty League action.
Clarkson, which trailed 14-5 at the half, outscored the Herons 8-7 over the final 30 minutes, but it was not enough as the Green and Gold lost their fifth straight to fall to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League.
Sophomore Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) recorded a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists. Classmate Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) also scored three goals. Freshman Marissa Mastronardi (Cortland, NY) chipped in two goals and two assists, while junior Alyssa Dausman (Syracuse, NY) posted one goal and two assists.
Rosie Scheibel led William Smith with a game-high five goals.
William Smith (4-3, 2-0) outshot Clarkson 47-23 and edged the Knights in goundballs 25-23.
Junior Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) was strong in the Clarkson goal, making 21 saves. Walters, VanDeValk and junior Kim Conte (Pompey, NY) picked up three groundballs apiece.
The Knights are back in action when they host conference foe Skidmore College at Hantz Turf Field on Friday, April 8.
