Sophomore Ville Runola (Raisio, Finland) backstopped a strong defensive effort with 30 saves, while freshman Sam Vigneault (Baie-Comeau, QUE) and junior Christian Powers (Carlisle, ONT) supplied the offense as the Clarkson University Hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against 6th-ranked Colgate in ECAC Hockey action at Starr Rink in Hamilton, NY on Saturday night.

The Golden Knights, who closed out a four-game road trip with their fourth 2-2 tie of the season, own a 3-5-4 overall record and a 1-1-2 ECAC Hockey mark. Clarkson fell 2-1 in overtime at Cornell on Friday. The Green and Gold, who earned four of a possible eight league points on the road trip, return to Cheel Arena next weekend when they host Quinnipiac and Princeton.

The last six games between Clarkson and Colgate have been decided by one goal-or-less.

Hard work and net-front presence led to a 2-0 lead for the Knights in the opening 10 minutes against Colgate.

Vigneault knocked in a rebound out of the air off a shot from the high slot by rookie defenseman Tyko Karjalainen (Helsinki, Finland) at 2:47 for his second goal of the season. Vigneault won a faceoff back to Karjalainen who put a hard shot on net, which led to his first point as a Golden Knight.

Powers made it 2-0 with a rebound goal midway through the period for his first goal of the season and second career tally. Sophomore defenseman James de Haas (Mississauga, ONT) recorded his team-high fifth assist of the season when he fired in a shot from the point that Colgate's netminder Charlie Finn was unable to control. Powers was able to backhand in the loose puck over the goal line at 10:23. Sophomore A.J. Fossen (Maple Grove, MN) also assisted.

Colgate got on the scoreboard late in the period, when Kevin Lough connected on a slap shot at 16:10.

The Raiders tied the game on a goal by Darcy Murphy from the left post at 11:36 of the third period.

Colgate outshot Clarkson 32-30, but the Knights dominated in the five-minute extra session with a 5-0 advantage. Runola made 12 saves in the third period

The Knights went 0-of-2 on the power play and killed off all five of the Raiders' man-advantage opportunities.
