A second half scoring drought doomed the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team as the Golden Knights fell to Union on Saturday afternoon on Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson is now 2-7 on the season with a 0-2 conference record while Union improves to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League.

The first half was very evenly matched with neither team able to take more than a two goal lead. Union opened the game with a pair of scores, but Ryan DaRin and Sam Groves answered for Clarkson to tie the game at 2. Although Union took the a 3-2 lead on the next goal, J.R. Campbell and Scott Dosser each scored to give Clarkson a 4-3 edge at the end of the first quarter.

Clarkson stretched the lead to 5-3 on Campbell's second goal of the game, but Union had a two goal rally of its own to tie the game at five. Harry Cwik scored to help Clarkson regain the lead, but that was the last time Clarkson was in front. Three straight Union goals gave the Dutchmen an 8-6 lead before DaRin could score to draw Clarkson within one goal heading into the break.

The third quarter was a defensive struggle as neither team could score for the first 14 minutes. Unfortunately for Clarkson it was the Dutchmen who broke through first, scoring with just 53 seconds left in the quarter. Union kept the momentum going into the final quarter, adding on two more scores to take an 11-7 lead. Two Clarkson goals in quick succession by Groves and Dosser gave Clarkson a chance, but the Green and Gold could not get any closer.

Union held a 45-33 advantage in shots, but Clarkson picked up 31 ground balls to Union's 26. DaRin and Campbell both finished with two goals and two assists each. Thomas Stanton caused four turnovers and picked up three ground balls with Austin Case and Marc Simmons also picking up four ground balls. Simmons was 3 of 6 on the faceoff with Nicholas Lenta going 7 for 17. Nick Strandholm made 17 saves for the Golden Knights in goal and scooped up eight ground balls.

Clarkson's next game will be next Saturday when the Golden Knights travel to Vassar.
