POTSDAM – Senior forward Derek Hart recorded his second 30-plus point game in Liberty League play, but once again it wasn't enough as the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team suffered a 73-55 loss to Hobart on Friday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in the Liberty League, while Hobart improved its standing to 9-6 and 4-2. Clarkson will host RIT tomorrow afternoon.

The first half amounted to the two teams exchanging small runs. Hobart started the game with a 7-0 spurt, but Clarkson responded with the next eight straight points. From there the two teams went back and forth with neither gaining much of a significant advantage. After a free throw from Drew Zlogar tied the game at 20-20 with 7:08 to go, Hobart ran off eight straight points, and eventually extended its lead to double figures.

With 46 seconds to go, Jamal Lucas made a jumper to help the Statesmen edge out to a 12-point lead, but two free throws from Derek Hart on Clarkson's final possession pulled the Knights back to within 10 at the break.

Derek Hart scored 14 of Clarkson's 26 points in the first half, shooting 6-for-7 from the floor while the rest of the team mustered a 4-for-18 showing for 12 points. Hobart's stat sheet was more evenly distributed as Tucker Lescoe and Jamal Lucas each tossed in 10 points and Colin Dougherty added eight points and five rebounds.

Hart continued to be a handful for the Statesmen in the second half, but unfortunately the rest of the Knights couldn't pick up much of the slack with a tough shooting night. The margin between the two teams wavered for the first 10 minutes, but eventually Hobart started making some 3-pointers and was able to pull away. The Knights trailed by 10 with a little over three minutes to go when Matt Walsh sunk a 3-pointer at the 2:52 mark and Tucker Lescoe buried another with 1:59 remaining for a 16-point Hobart lead. Drew Zlogar hit a 3-pointer with under a minute to go to break a slump from the perimeter, but the shot was too little too late for the Knights.

Hart finished with a game-high 31 points, shooting 13-for-16 from the field, and added seven boards. Drew Zlogar chipped in nine points and four rebounds and Liam Ellis had seven points, seven rebounds and four assists. Clarkson shot just 4-for-24 from beyond the 3-point arc, going a stretch of 33:45 without a 3-pointer.

For Hobart, Lescoe and Lucas each finished with 18 points while Matt Walsh scored 13 points and had nine rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. Dougherty also produced 12 points and six rebounds. Hobart did a good job of taking care of the ball, committing just five turnovers.
