Last October, the Clarkson University Cross Country team officially unveiled the Munter Trails along the Raquette River when the program hosted the Liberty League Championships. Just a little over 10 months later, the Golden Knights will co-host, along with Potsdam State, the North Country Invitational, with the women's race beginning at 5:00 pm on Wednesday.
Many of the same teams that competed at this past weekend's Kangaroos Invitational at SUNY Canton will participate at the event on Wednesday, as the women's race will include the Knights, Potsdam State, SUNY Canton, and Paul Smith's College. The men's race will include the same four teams as well as St. Lawrence University.
The 5,000-meter event will go along Munter Trails, starting behind the Riverside apartments and through Bayside Cemetery before concluding on Hantz Turf Field. At last weekend's Kangaroos Invitational, the Golden Knights finished with a team-low 15 points, as the top nine runners were all members of the Clarkson squad. Ryan Recchia (Latham, NY), Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) and Phillip Spinosa (Spencerport, NY) were the top three in that event. On the women's side, the Knights led the pack with a team-low 25 points, finishing five of the top 10, seven of the top 12, and 10 of the top 18 overall. Catherine Zarnofsky (Glenville, NY), Sarah Governale (Wading River, NY) and Fiona Recchia (Latham, NY) took first, second, and fifth, respectively.
