A one-goal win on the road over its archrival made heading into final semester exam week a little more enjoyable for the Clarkson University Hockey team. The Golden Knights, guided by fourth-year head coach Casey Jones and assistants Phil Roy '00 and Andy Jones, completed the 2014 portion of their ECAC Hockey schedule with a 2-1 victory at St. Lawrence on Saturday night. The win extended, the Knights conference unbeaten streak over their North Country neighbor to nine games (8-0-1) and also pushed the Green and Gold into sole possession of third place in the league standings.

Led by junior captain Paul Geiger (Stouffville, ONT) and assistant captains, senior James Howden (Edgeley, SASK) and junior Jeff DiNallo (Aurora, ONT), Clarkson has gone 3-0-1 over its past four conference games to improves its ECAC Hockey mark to 4-1-2. The Knights stand at 6-7-4 overall.

Clarkson travels to East Lansing, MI on Sunday for a 5:00 p.m. game at Michigan State. The game against the Spartans will be broadcast lives by Fox Sports Detroit (FSD).

Scouting Michigan State

Playing in its final game before the holiday tournaments Michigan State owns a very similar record as Clarkson. The Spartans, guided by fourth-year head coach Tom Anastos, stand at 5-9-1 overall and hold down third place in the Big 10 with a 1-2-1 conference mark. Michigan State has gone 1-1-1 in its past three games. This past weekend at Munn Arena, the Spartans gained one point in league play against third-ranked Minnesota. On Friday, Michigan State was shut out by the highly-rated Gophers 5-0, but came back on Saturday to outshoot Minnesota 45-24 in a 3-3 tie. In their only other action against an ECAC Hockey foe this season, the Spartans split on the road at Princeton, losing 3-1 and winning 4-2 on November 28-29. Michigan State is 2-4-1 in East Lansing this year with its last home victory coming on November 1 vs Ferris State (4-1).

• Two of the long-time powers in college hockey, Clarkson and Michigan State have played just 14 times with the Golden Knights holding a 7-6-1 edge in the series. The Spartans won the last two meetings (6-1, 4-3) on October 9-10, 2009 in East Lansing after a 41-year break in the series. Eleven of the previous 12 meetings were held at Clarkson's Walker Arena. The Knights and Spartans played in the 1966 NCAA Championship game with Michigan State winning 6-1 in Minneapolis.
