Two complete game pitching performances drove the Clarkson University Baseball team to a doubleheader sweep against Vassar on Monday afternoon.

With the two victories, Clarkson improves to 6-12 overall and 3-5 in the Liberty League while Vassar drops to 6-6 in conference and 10-12 overall.

In the opener, Clarkson scored a run in five of the seven innings and Will Coleman threw the first shutout of the year for the Golden Knights. Offensively, five Clarkson hitters had multiple hits and eight had at least one. Chris Miller, Dom Pirro, and Connor Martin all had three hits with Coleman and Greg Jasek picking up a pair each. Jasek knocked in three runs for Clarkson, Pirro drove in two, and Coleman and Mike Bonk had one RBI each.

On the mound Coleman was dominant for all seven innings. He did not allow a run and gave up just five hits. He racked up a career-high ten strikeouts and allowed just one Vassar runner to reach third base. Coleman now owns a 1-1 record on the year.

In the second game, Eddie Miller followed Coleman's lead and pitched a complete game. Six Clarkson runs in the final three innings helped Miller earn his first win of the year.

Clarkson opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Anthony Padrazo led the inning off with a single, but Vassar retired the next two batters. Chris Miller kept the inning going when he was hit by a pitch, allowing Brad Pearson to come to the plate and single to center field which scored Padrazo.

The game stayed at 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when a Vassar run tied the score. Clarkson retook the lead in the very next inning. Connor Dietrich started the fifth with a single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Padrazo walked to put two runners on base, with both advancing on a sacrifice bunt by Coleman. Jasek then hit a ringing double to right field that scored both Dietrich and Padrazo.

The Green and Gold extended their lead with pairs of runs in both the sixth and seventh. With Martin on second base and two outs, Dietrich singled to center field to bring Martin home. After Dietrich stole second base, Padrazo worked a walk to bring Coleman to the plate. With a full count Coleman was able to slap a single to right field that scored Dietrich. In the seventh, the first three Clarkson batters reached base. Chris Miller started with a walk and then consecutive singles by Pearson and Pirro scored Miller and left runners on first and second still without an out. Martin's groundout moved Pearson and Pirro both into scoring position and then a Ben Knauf sacrifice fly scored Pearson for the final run of the game.

Eddie Miller finished with a final line of one earned run on five hits to go with three strikeouts.

Clarkson's next game will be next Saturday when the Golden Knights travel to Bard for a weekend series.
