All nine starters picked up a hit and scored a run as the Clarkson University Baseball team won their opening game of the Liberty League Tournament 17-1 over the University of Rochester.

Clarkson is now 24-7 overall while Rochester is 26-15. This is the 10th time in 13 years that Clarkson has made it to the Liberty League tournament and it is the seventh time that they have won their opening round game. It also ties the highest scoring game ever for Clarkson in the conference tournament and it is the second widest margin of victory for any Liberty League tournament game.

Clarkson opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when junior Greg Jasek's two run double brought home seniors Tim Beninati and Matt Jenack, followed by Jasek scoring on a wild pitch. Two innings later, Clarkson would break the game open with a five run fifth. First, freshman Will Coleman singled with the bases loaded to score his brother, senior John Coleman. Two batters later, senior Nolan Driscoll cleared the bases with a home run to right center to give Clarkson a commanding 8-0 lead. In the sixth inning, sophomore Paul Ludden hit a two-run home run of his own to make it 10-0. After a Rochester home run made it 10-1, the Golden Knights would score five more runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the bottom of the eighth to bring the final score to 17-1.

Will Coleman pitched the first seven innings of the game, allowing only four hits and just one run. Junior Jamie Terry pitched the final two innings and did not give up a run or a hit. Jasek and Driscoll both led the way with four RBI's while Ludden had three and sophomore Dom Pirro finished with two. Pirro had three hits while six other Clarkson batters finished with a pair of hits.

Clarkson's next game will take place tomorrow at 1:00 pm when they face the winner of today's game between RPI and RIT.
