In only the program's second season, the Clarkson University Softball team has earned its first Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District award as sophomore Katie Pelton was chosen to the District 3 team as announced by CoSIDA on Thursday.
Pelton was one of three pitchers and 12 players overall named to the District 3 team, which comprises programs from the New York Region. Pelton, who has a 3.89 grade-point average in mechanical engineering, saw action in the circle in 19 games, including 15 starts. She posted a 4.54 earned run average with seven wins, seven complete games, and a shutout. She struck out 65 hitters in 83.1 innings and allowed only 15 walks, boasting the second-best walks per seven rate in the conference (1.26), and had the third best strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.33 K/BB) in the conference.
With her selection, Pelton helps push Clarkson to eight Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District winners this year, making the fourth straight year that the school has earned that many awards. The At-Large winners will be announced next week.
