Caulfield leads Saints men's xcountry shutout in Hoffmann Invitational

Thomas Caulfield won his second race in three starts and led St. Lawrence to a perfect finish, the Saints sweeping the top seven places to win the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational on the Saint cross country course for the second straight year.

The Saints finished with 15 points with Clarkson second with 70, Ottawa third with 76 followed by Paul Smith's with 116, Potsdam with 131 and Carleton with 153. The perfect score was the fifth in the 24-year history of the race and the Saints now have four of the five.

Caulfield led the 89-runner men's field with a time of 25:53.1 while the Saint top five finished in a span of just over 49 seconds. Senior Wesley Kirui was second in 26:01.9, freshman Sidi Abdoulaye was third in 26:07.1, Joe Smith was fourth in 26:15.2 and Ben Fishbein was fifth in 26:42.2. Freshman Brandon Moran was the sixth Saint finisher in 26:59.1 and Spencer Patterson completed the Saint top seven in 27:01.7.

The Saints had 28 runners in the race and 18 of them finished in the top 30. Connor Fulk was ninth, Andrew Jarombek tenth, Ellis toll 12th, Adam Bankert 13th and Jon Mitchell 14th to give the Saints 12 of the top 15 finishers and the trio of Caleb Kessler, Logan Mancuso and Evan Page finished in a pack from 22nd through 24th. William Bronner was 29th, Hogan Dwyer 33rd, Devon Calvin 35th, Evan Garvey 41st, Leif Ostrum 48th, Graham Baird was 52nd, David Bain 53rd, Alec MacCrory was 55th, Fletcher Starnes 56th, Tim O'Brien was 58th, and John Gilooley was 65th.

The Saints will run at the NCAA Pre-Regional at Geneseo on Oct. 3.
