A hat trick by Boston College forward Alex Carpenter helped the second-ranked Eagles complete the weekend sweep of the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team with a 7-3 win over the Saints on Monday afternoon.

Senior Kailee Heidersbach scored early in the second period for St. Lawrence, while sophomore Kennedy Marchment and first-year Kayla Nielsen added goals late in the third to cut the deficit to three before the Eagles tallied an empty netter in the closing minutes.

"BC came out playing a different game than us today and we struggled to find our rhythm," Head Coach Chris Wells said. "They were tenacious on pucks all day long and they used their speed to create many quality scoring chances."

The Eagles carried a 3-0 lead into the first intermission after goals by Carpenter, Makenna Newkirk and Meghan Grieves. Her first goal of the game went down as Carpenter's 200th career point.

Just over two minutes into the middle frame, Heidersbach got the Saints on the board with her first of the season. First-year Lydia Grauer played the puck from the end boards to the crashing Heidersbach for a one-time redirection behind netminder Gabriella Switaj to cut the home team's lead to 3-1.

Boston College then scored three straight, two by Carpenter and one on the power play, to push its lead to 6-1 in the middle of the third period.

At the 13:28 mark of the third, Marchment notched her fifth of the season with a tip in front of Switaj on a shot by Lydia Grauer for the second St. Lawrence goal. Hannah Miller also picked up an assist on the Marchment score.

Less than two minute later, Nielsen cut the deficit to three with her second of the year when she unleashed a hard one-time slapshot off a drop pass from classmate Justine Reyes as she entered the zone. Nielsen beat Switaj low inside the far post for the final Saints goal of the day.

First-year Grace Harrison got the nod in between the pipes for the Saints on Monday, finishing with 40 saves in her first career start and complete game. Switaj made nine saves of the Eagles.

With the loss, the Saints drop to 0-5-1 on the year, while BC remains unbeaten at 4-0-0.

The Saints will look for their first win of the season with a non-conference home-and-home series against the University of Vermont Catamounts later this week. The Saints will travel to Burlington for a 7 p.m. puck drop on Thursday night before playing host to UVM in Appleton Arena at 7 p.m. on Friday.
