St. Lawrence sophomore forward Greg Carey has been named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week and sophomore goaltender Matt Weninger was accorded Goaltender of the Week honors in voting by the league's coaches.
The two helped St. Lawrence extend its win streak to four games with wins over Quinnipiac (4-3) and Princeton (4-1) at Appleton Arena Friday and Saturday.
Carey had three goals and two assists in the two games with two goals and an assist in the win over Quinnipiac including the game-winner and a goal and the assist on the game-winner in the Princeton game. He is the second Saint player to earn Player of the Week honors this season, joining Kyle Flanagan who was the Player of the Week Jan. 3. Carey earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors six times last season.
Weninger, who was ECAC Goalie of the Week twice and Rookie of the Week two other times in his freshman season, earned Goaltender of the Week honors for the first time this season. He helped the Saints kill 17 of 17 penalties on the weekend with 22 power play saves and had a total of 59 saves in the two games, posting a .937 save percentage while allowing just four goals I the two games.
