POTSDAM, N.Y.- Strong first half scoring lifts SUNY Plattsburgh (9-5, 3-4 SUNYAC) over the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-13, 0-7 SUNYAC) Tuesday night with a score of 61-27. Junior forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) led the Bears with six points, five rebounds and four steals. Cardinals' senior guard Allie Taylor (Hannibal, N.Y./Hannibal) recorded a double-double with 15 points, 12 boards and added three steals and two blocks.

Plattsburgh opened the 10-minute quarter with a 15-0 run before freshman guard Breanne Sapp (Potsdam N.Y./Potsdam) got Potsdam on the board with a jumper just inside the arch at 3:27. The Bears' offense continued to struggle the remaining minutes and throughout the second quarter.  The Cardinals took the 37-10 lead into the locker room.

Plattsburgh's scoring attack carried over into the third with scoring 16 points, but Potsdam momentum started to pick up in the last three minutes. Senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) drained a jumper in the paint at 2:51 followed by another jumper from the Cardinals. Over the next two minutes, the Bears managed to get four turnovers and another four points combined from Sapp and LaVoie to close out the quarter.

The fourth quarter was low scoring on both sides with the Cardinals' holding the advantage 8-7. The final horn blew and Plattsburgh took the 61-27 victory.

Freshman guard Janay Smith (Bronx, N.Y./Wings Academy) finished with six points, while LaVoie and Sapp each had four. Plattsburgh's senior guard Devona Paul (Baluvelt, N.Y./Tappan Zee) fell short of a double-double with 14 points and eight boards and junior guard Jax Miller (Argyle, N.Y./Argyle) tacked on 12 points with three assists.

The Bears host College at Brockport Friday at 5:30 p.m. and SUNY Geneseo Saturday at 2 p.m. in Jerry Welsh Gymnasium.
