With a sweep of doubles and a trio of singles wins, the St. Lawrence women's tennis team blanked Union 6-0 to advance to the semifinal round of the Liberty League tournament.
Junior captains Elkie Vandenbeemt and Anna Young finished their singles matches simultaneously to push the Saints lead to 6-0 and end the match. Both were dual winners on the day.
Vandenbeemt posted a 6-1, 6-0 win in the first spot over Union's Natalia Pronchick, while Young defeated Hayley Lough in the fifth spot, 6-0, 6-1. Morgan McNeal earned the other singles win for St. Lawrence, blanking the Dutchwomen's Margaret Oppenheim at No. 3 6-0, 6-0.
After some different combinations at the end of the regular season, the Saints returned to their usual top three doubles pairings of Vandenbeemt and McNeal, Anna Young and Georgia Comber and Hallie Young and Samantha Miller.
Hallie Young and Miller were the only duo to not concede a game to Union, beating Lough and Oppenheim 8-0 in the third position. The Saints picked up 8-1 and 8-2 victories at No. 1 and No. 2.
Third-seeded St. Lawrence will play No. 2 seed, Vassar, on Sunday at 2 p.m. The other semifinal match will see top seed Skidmore take on William Smith at 11 a.m.
