Canton-based FC Freeze U12 girls finish season with 8-2 win at Indian River

PHILADELPHIA -- Canton-based FC Freeze u12 Girls team has ended the club’s regular season with an 8-2 victory over host Indian River United Soccer Club.

FC Freeze started off a bit slow but eventually kept their opponents’ defense busy with eighteen shots on goal.

Eleven minutes into the contest forward Emily Jordan centered a ball near the net. Katie Cowen slipped in front of the goalie and was able to flick the ball inside the left post. Five minutes later midfielder Olivia Mace was deep in her own end and made a long pass to Hannah Butler who was near the middle of the field. She broke free of her defenders and went one-on-one against the goalie. Butler skillfully dribbled around the goalie and placed her shot in the center of the net.

Indian River scored to make it 2-1. With 10:48 remaining in the half Mace caught the keeper out of position. She rifled an unassisted 35-yard shot into the top far post. With 5:34 remaining in the half Cowen was able to set up Kennedy Emerson with a crossing pass. Emerson blasted a ball into the far post for the score. With 25 seconds remaining in the half Cowen settled a goal kick at midfield and unleashed a 40 yard shot into the right top corner to put Freeze up 5-1 at halftime.

Five minutes into the second half Mace was left unmarked and fired a 30 yard shot into the top right corner. With 20:13 remaining in the game Freeze players made numerous shot on goal. The ball ricocheted off a defender and Butler pounced on it and scored with a strong shot in the left side of the net. With 2:05 remaining in the game Mace was by the right sideline when she centered a pass in front of the goal to Jordan, who was by the far post. She then dished the pass to Julia Rishe who was scored her first goal of the season with a great shot by the right post. With 20 seconds remaining in the game Indian River scored their second goal of the game making the final score 8-2.

The Freeze’s defense of Natalie Cowen, Teaghan Phalen, Madelyn Dinneen, and Quinn Woodward came up big and held their opponent to seven shots on goal. Goalie Kyla Phalen made 5 saves in the crease.

FC Freeze move on to the Northern New York Youth Soccer League Playoffs at Indian River High School Saturday, July 25.
