Amanda Butterfield scored a 6-on-4 goal on a blast from the left faceoff circle with just one minute and 18 seconds to play in the third period to lift the St. Lawrence University women's hockey team to a 2-2 tie with 10th-ranked Colgate in an ECAC Hockey contest on Friday night at Appleton Arena.

The Saints came back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to move to 13-12-4 overall, 8-6-3 in ECAC Hockey play and are tied for fifth place in the conference standings. Colgate, now 16-8-5, 10-4-3, is four points ahead in fourth place.

"Exciting game all the way around," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells '92. "I think both teams probably feel decent about the point at the end of it, because I think both teams probably could have won the game or lost the game. Both goaltenders made some nice stops. Vandyk made some great stops on a scramble there in overtime, and we actually had a couple chances after we tied it in the last minute."

St. Lawrence dominated the first period, outshooting the Raiders 16-6, but Jessie Eldridge gave Colgate a 1-0 lead with less than five minutes to play in the frame, creating a 2-on-1 with a blocked shot and taking a high shot glove side.

Maggie McLaughlin tied the game near the midway point of the second period with a shorthanded breakaway goal, with Lydia Grauer setting up the play with a pass through the neutral zone.

Colgate took a 2-1 lead with just 3:20 remaining in the third period, with Malia Schneider blasting a one-timer from the left circle off a feed from Shae Labbe.

The Saints, however, got new life with a power play opportunity with 2:49 to play, and St. Lawrence goaltender Grace Harrison was pulled in favor of an extra attacker with 2:10 left. After several outstanding scoring opportunities, Butterfield finally tied the game with on a one-time shot through a screen off a feed from Justine Reyes. Rachael Smith also earned an assist on the play.

The game was the 11th overtime contest of the season for the Saints, extending a program record set last weekend at Princeton.

St. Lawrence outshot the Raiders 36-23, with Colgate goaltender Julia Vandyk making 34 saves and Grace Harrison stopping 21 shots.

The Saints will host sixth-ranked Cornell on Saturday at 3 p.m.
