Morrisville, NY - Freshman Brooke Butkovsky (Monroe, CT) scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to help lift the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to another come-from-behind victory over Morrisville State, 60-55, Thursday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-1 overall on the season, their best start since the 2002-03 campaign. The Mustangs fell to 1-3. Clarkson will take on Elmira College on Sunday before closing out the first semester at home next Tuesday against St. Joseph's College (VT).

Once again, the Knights struggled mightily at the start of the game, falling behind by double figures in the first four minutes before finally breaking the ice with a free throw from Jazmyn Haywood (Rochester, NY). However, that score didn't change the pace for the Mustangs, as they held on to their 11-point advantage for the next 11 minutes. Trailing 30-19 with just over five minutes to go in the first half, Clarkson went on a 12-3 run with a few minutes expired in the second half to cut the deficit to just two points (33-31). The Knights continued to chip away and took their first lead at the 10-minute mark of the second half following a lay in and a free throw from Butkovsky.

"We didn't play our best basketball tonight, but we found a way to win," Clarkson head coach John Hampton said. "I thought down the stretch we did great playing disciplined defense. Carey Turner locked down there best player and Brooke Butkovsky cleaned up the boards. Overall, I am proud of our team for the way they handled all the adversity Morrisville presented."

Morrisville shot only 1-for-7 and had two turnovers in the final four minutes of the contest, allowing a one-point lead change to a five-point deficit as Clarkson made seven free throws during the stretch to gain the decisive advantage.

Butkovsky shot 5-for-6 from the field and 6-for-9 from the free throw line to help lead Clarkson, but the Knights shot only 12-for-26 from the free throw line in the second half, and 16-for-34 overall. Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) added 13 points and Leighann Tomita (Cerritos, CA) tossed in 13 points. Dyshea Smiley scored 17 to lead Morrisville State.
