Bush and Denny score four each, Bowes posts seven points in SUNY Canton women’s lax win

Castine, ME – MaryClare Bowes posted a game-high seven points and Logan Bush and Molly Denny recorded four goals each as the SUNY Canton women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-5 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory v. Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday.

The Roos improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 within conference play, while the Mariners drop to 0-3 and 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Roos scored the first seven goals of the game with three coming off the stick of Logan Bush. The Mariners got on the board with 13:11 to play in the opening half but Canton scored eight of the final nine goals of the half to take a commanding 15-2 lead into intermission.

Bush and Denny had three goals each in the opening half, while Bowes led the way with five points on two goals and three assists.

Canton held a slim 4-3 edge in scoring with the game fully in hand in the second half.

Bowes led the way offensively with two goals and a game-best five assists, while Bush and Denny struck for a game-high four goals each. Erin Parks recorded her first collegiate hat trick, while EllaRose Lemay totaled two goals and one assist. Stephanie Thayer and Alyssa Kolbe finished with a goal and assist each, while Allison Wakefield and Jessica Pele tallied a goal each.

Mia Jermano totaled a game-best five ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers. Pele tied a game-high with five draw controls and Bush added four.

Canton controlled shots on goal (25-11), ground balls (24-20) and draw controls (14-11), while Parks, Denny and Bush combined to go a perfect 4-for-4 on free-position shots.

Sydney Adams led the Mariners with two goals, while Madison Savary added a goal and assist.

Madison Leary made two saves in the first half to improve to 5-0 on the season, while Nicole Piskorowski stopped four shots after halftime. Sydney Cole made six stops for MMA.

The women's lacrosse team will take on Maine Farmington on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in a game played at Thomas College.
