Junior midfielder Noah Bunton converted on a penalty kick in the 84th minute to help the No. 13 Saints edge The Sage Colleges, 2-1, in the NCAA first round match on Sandy MacAllaster Field on Saturday morning.

It's the second penalty kick goal for Bunton in as many games, as he also converted an attempt in the Liberty League final against Skidmore a week ago.Noah Bunton converted a PK in the 84th minute to help the Saints advance.

Bunton and sophomore Chandler Short helped the Saints overcome an early one-goal deficit after the Gators' Mu'Ammar Camara beat senior goalkeeper Ryan Roethel with a shot from distance that sailed in under the crossbar from 40 yards out in the 21st minute.

The Gators carried a 1-0 lead into the half, but the Saint came out hard to start the final 45 minutes with the season on the line and dominated the possession. The Scarlet and Brown finally broke through on a set piece in the 58th minute.

Junior Morgan Smith played a corner to the far side of the box for senior center back Harry Copeland, who got a head on it, but the shot was saved by Gators' keeper TJ Zehner. The rebound, however, found the foot of Short inside the six-yard box, as the San Diego, Calif. native volleyed it home to pull the Saints even.

Smith also had a hand in setting up Bunton's penalty kick, which he earned after another corner from the left side for the Saints. Sage attempted to clear, but couldn't get past first-year Austin Dilts at the edge of the box. Dilts' shot attempt was played down with hand in the box, setting up Bunton for the game winner. He stepped to the line and hit a hard shot in the middle of the net on the far side to give the Saints the 2-1 win.

St. Lawrence finished with a 14-5 edge in shots and 6-1 advantage in corner kicks. Zehner made four saves for Sage, while Roethel finished with one stop for the Saints.

With the loss, Sage – who made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history – is eliminated and finishes the season with a record of 13-4-3.

The Saints improve to 15-3-2 and will face the winner of the other first round contest between UMass Boston and the University of Scranton on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1:00 p.m. on Sandy MacAllaster Field.
