Bulldogs run past Bears, 74-52

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.—DeSales University (5-6) used a series of runs to down the SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team (4-7) 74-52 in the consolation game of the Red Robin Holiday Tournament Wednesday night. Freshman forward Zac Adams led the Bears with 11 points, while sophomore guard Tony Efese and senior forward Brad Drysdale each scored nine. Sophomore captain Rob Duquette was named to the All-Tournament team.

With the score tied 4-4 two minutes into the game, the Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to grab a lead they never gave up. With 6:17 left in the first half, junior forward Corey Ellis hit a jumper to get Potsdam within 24-18. However DeSales answered with a three-pointer from Paul Pammer and closed the half on a 13-2 run. The Bulldogs led 37-20 at the break. DeSales shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, while the Bears hit 40 percent of their shots.

The Bulldogs scored the first five points of the final period to extend their lead to 22 points. Two free throws from Brett Moyer gave DeSales a 26-point advantage at the 14:03 mark. Potsdam chipped away at the lead over the next six minutes. With 8:25 left, a jumper from sophomore forward Jake Klossner got Potsdam to within 58-40, but the Bears got no closer. The Bulldogs pulled away for the 74-52 victory.

Brett Moyer scored a game-high 17 points and Kyle Hash added another 15 to lead DeSales. The Bears outrebounded the Bulldogs 29-23, but DeSales held a 21-9 advantage in turnovers forced. Both teams shot 44 percent on the night.

The Bears are back in action on Jan. 10, when they head to New Paltz to take on the Hawks at 6 p.m.
