BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (10-4-1, 5-2 SUNYAC) broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute to down the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (7-5-2, 2-4-1) 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Defense controlled the contest in the first half. The Bengals outshot Potsdam 5-1, but only the Bears' attempt made it through to the Buffalo State goalie William Banahene. While the shots were hard to come by, physical play was not. The teams combined for 14 fouls in the scoreless opening 45 minutes.

The second half remained balanced and physical, but the offense started to emerge. The Bengals finally broke through at 72:56, as Brandon Galanti one-timed a cross from Tristan Myers to make it 1-0. Potsdam had a final opportunity less than a minute later, but sophomore midfielder Issac Sanabria (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) fired wide. Neither defense allowed a shot over the final 16 minutes.

In goal, freshman Jake Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) made two saves for the Bears and Banahene finished with three for Buffalo State.

The Bengals outshot Potsdam 12-6, but the Bears edged Buffalo State 4-3 in corners.

Potsdam hosts Geneseo and Brockport next weekend as the Bears continue to battle for a playoff spot.
