With a big night on special teams, highlighted by a red-hot power play and a productive outing by its top line 7th-ranked Clarkson University skated past Colgate 5-1 in ECAC Hockey action at Cheel Arena on Saturday night.

Winners of five of its last six, the Golden Knights stand at 8-3-1 overall and improve to 3-1 in conference play. Clarkson takes to the road next weekend, playing at Brown and Yale.

The Knights enjoyed their most productive outing of the season on the power play, going 3-of-8 and added a shorthanded marker while they shut down the Raiders on all three of their man-advantage opportunities.

The Knights' line of sophomore center Josh Dunne (O'Fallon, MO) (2-1), left wing, graduate student Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) (0-4) and senior right wing Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) (1-2) accounted for three goals and seven assists.

Colgate (3-6-3, 2-2-0), which was coming off a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence on Friday, took advantage of one of the rare Clarkson mistakes in the game to grab an early lead. Jared Cockrell picked off an errant Golden Knight clearing attempt and connected on a shot from the slot for an unassisted goal at 3:10.

After that, it was all Green and Gold as the Knights answered back with five unanswered goals and limited the Raiders to just 16 shots and only nine attempts through the first 40 minutes.

Dunne started the Clarkson roll midway through the first period. Stationed at the top of the crease, the Knights' leading goal scorer, fought off a Raider defender and knocked in a loose puck off a rebound on Egle's shot for a power-play marker at 9:33. Clarkson's Captain, Brosseau also assisted for the first of four helpers on the night.

With the first period winding down, sophomore Chris Klack (Georgetown, ONT) jumped on a loose puck at center ice, skated in alone and finished off the breakaway with a shorthanded marker at 18:06 for his second goal of the season to give the Green and Gold a 2-1 lead.

Egle made it 3-1 at 13:00 of the second period, finishing off a perfect power-play feed from Brosseau at the side of the night for his fourth goal of the season. Dunne started the scoring play by freeing the puck along the right boards and sending a pass to Brosseau at the left circle.

The power play click again with under two minutes to play in the middle frame as Dunne, a Golden Knight Assistant Captain, scored in front for his team-high seventh goal with Egle and Brosseau assisting at 18:16.

With 26 seconds remaining in the game senior defenseman Shane Kuzmeski (Grayslake, IL), just out of the penalty box picked up a pass from Brosseau at center ice and scored into an empty net to close out the impressive victory. For Brosseau that was his 100th career point with 37 goals and 63 assists through 126 career games.

Frank Marotte posted 15 saves for his eight victory of the young season, tied for most in the NCAA.
