POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (12-5-2, 5-3-1 SUNYAC) rallied for two goals in the final 11 minutes, but fell short in a 4-2 loss to the College at Brockport (9-6-2, 4-4-1) on Saturday afternoon. Junior midfielders Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) and Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) each scored for the Bears.

Through the entire contest, the teams traded Grade A scoring chances. Just 4:59 into the contest, Golden Eagles freshman midfielder Krista Statt (Greece, N.Y./Greece Athena) rang the crossbar and sophomore forward Molly Zientek (Holland, N.Y./Holland) drove the rebound home. Potsdam shifted the momentum nearly midway through the half. In the 22nd minute, Brockport sophomore goalie Kimberly Lubanski (Leicester, N.Y./York) robbed Bears freshman midfielder Lexi Dean (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) on a shot from the right side of the box. Nearly a minute later, Dean hit the crossbar. Lubanski stopped sophomore midfielder Cierra Norris (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) nine minutes later. In the 36th minute, junior midfielder Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) ripped a shot just wide of the left post. Despite the pressure, Potsdam was unable to get the equalizer. At 40:48, Golden Eagle freshman forward Aja Holloway (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) fought off two Bears defenders and buried a shot in the left corner of the net to make it a 2-0 contest. The score was unchanged at the half.

Brockport added to its lead just 2:47 into the second half. Zientek battled through the defense and snuck one past Potsdam freshman goalie Gabby Hobika (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) for a 3-0 lead. The Bears had two near misses of their own with about 28 minutes to play. After a Golden Eagles yellow card, Potsdam set a up a pretty tick-tack-toe play that ended with a shot from freshman midfielder Caroline White (Gananda, N.Y./Gananda) trickling just wide of the right post. Two minutes later, Falsion broke free on the right side and fired just wide of the left post. Again, the Bears' momentum was stalled by a Brockport goal. At 78:19, junior defender Lindsey Lovette (Bergen, N.Y./Byron-Bergen) sent a long kick from the right side into the box. Sophomore goalie Delphine Léonard (Montreal, Quebec/Dawson College Prep), who had entered the game for an injured Hobika, and freshman forward Sarah Covell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) both went into the air for it, but Covell was able to head the ball in for a 4-0 lead. Potsdam finally countered 19 seconds later when the Bears were awarded a penalty kick. Murray was robbed by Lubanski diving to her right, but the rebound came right back to her and she roofed it to get Potsdam on the board. At 81:50, senior defender Samantha Hubinsky (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) lofted a long pass that landed in front of Falsion. She and Lubanski both charged for it, but Falsion won the race and headed the ball in. Senior captain Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) had a final chance with less than four minutes to play, but Lubanski made the save to end the threat.

Hobika finished with two saves and three goals allowed in 66:44 and Léonard allowed a goal and stopped one shot in the last 23:16. Lubanski finished with six saves for the win.

The Bears had a 15-11 advantage in shots, but Brockport had a 6-3 edge in corners.

Potsdam will be the fourth seed in next weekend's SUNYAC Tournament. They will host fifth-seeded SUNY Oneonta next Saturday, October 28 in the Bears first ever SUNYAC Playoff appearance.

Prior to the game, Hubinsky, Amanda Lingenfelter (Alexandria Bay, N.Y./Alexandria), Morr and Morgan Robbins (Cape Vincent, N.Y./Thousand Islands) were honored on Senior Day.
