Brockport tops Bears swimming and diving

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The College at Brockport spoiled the SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams' home opener this afternoon. The Golden Eagles men edged the Bears 146-132 and Brockport's women swam to a 140-109 victory.

Senior Delvyne Santiago (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) led Potsdam's men with three individual wins and one in a relay. Santiago captured the 1000 FREE in 11:17.81, the 200 FLY in 2:15.67 and the 500 Free in 5:17.34. He then teamed with senior captains Tyler Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) and Chris Carlini (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) along with junior Ricky Blackburn (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) to win the 400 Medley Relay in 3:52.29.

Zapisek won two solo victories of his own. He captured the 200 Backstroke (2:15.97) and the 100 FLY (54.97) He earned his fourth win of the day in the 200 Free Relay with senior Clement York (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon), Carlini and freshman Andres Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y./George Washington) with a time of 1:36.41. Carini won the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.34) in addition to the two relays. Blackburn was first in the 200 FREE (1:53.29) and York took the 200 Breaststroke (2:26.61).

Sophomore Colleen Fraser (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) had two solo victories and a relay win. She touched the wall first in the 100 (1:17.28) and 200 Breaststroke (2:45.96) competitions. She then joined sophomore Emily Gulitti (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston), freshman Hailey Arquiett and junior captain Jennifer Yeager (Greene, N.Y./Greene) to win the 400 Medley Relay in 4:32.35. Gulitti garnered her own win in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:26.20. Yeager was also part of the winning 200 Free Relay team (1:54.99) with sophomore Darien Frederick (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands), junior Kira Wood (Hopewell, N.Y./John Jay) and senior captain Grace Zimmerman (Victor, N.Y./Victor).

The Bears are back in action next weekend when they host the North Country Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
