POTSDAM, N.Y.—The College at Brockport (7-3, 3-1 SUNYAC) shook off a fast start by the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (4-8, 1-3) en route to an 18-6 victory on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the game the Bears honored seniors Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y/Williamsville East), Margaret Wall (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas), Emily Petit (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury), Katie Putnam (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) and Cheyenne Lazore (Akwesasne, N.Y./Salmon River) on Senior Day.

Weigel led Potsdam with two goals and two assists. Junior attack Hailey Boronczyk (Syracuse, N.Y./Corcoran) had a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists for the Golden Eagles and sophomore attack Kelly Wall (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) added four goals and an assist.

The Bears showed some fire out of the gate. Just 1:05 into the contest junior attack Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) found Lazore in front of the net. Lazore, who has seen limited action in her lone season with Potsdam, ripped a shot into the top of the net for her first collegiate goal. Sophomore defender Hannah Keggins (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) grabbed the following draw control and moved the ball up field. At 27:27 Weigel found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Brockport finally got on the board 39 seconds later as freshman attack Taylor Thomas (Cortland, N.Y./Taylor) converted on a free-position attempt. The goals started an 8-0 Golden Eagle run to end the half. Wall scored three times during the stretch.

Brockport junior Makensie Schuber (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) opened the second half scoring at 2:56 and the Golden Eagles led 9-2. Brockport was carded seconds later and Petit made them pay at 21:44 with a man-up goal. Weigel assisted on the play. The teams battled evenly with no scoring over the next five minutes. At 16:45, the Golden Eagles called a timeout and the team responded. Brockport closed the game with a 9-3 run. Boronczyk had three goals during the final 8:18. The Bears' last three goals came from sophomore attack Katie Lapinski (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) (14:32), sophomore midfielder Alyssa Ferenczy (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) (9:22) and Weigel (2:33) on assists from Weigel, Wall and McClusky, respectively.

In goal, Bears sophomore Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) had another impressive performance with a season-high 15 saves. Brockport senior goalie Remle Harr (Farmington, N.Y./Fairport) made one save to earn the win.

Potsdam native Keeley Rice (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam) had two goals and three assists for the Golden Eagles.

The Bears will now battle for a playoff spot during a four-game road trip to close out the regular season. Potsdam heads to Oneonta on Tuesday for a 4 p.m. contest.
