BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The Brockport Golden Eagles (13-12, 11-7 SUNYAC) raced out to a big early lead and never slowed down en route to a 94-49 victory over the SUNY Potsdam men’s basketball team (5-20, 3-15). Gerald Williams scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Golden Eagles and junior captain Curtis Pierce had 12 points to lead the Bears in their season finale.
Hot shooting by Brockport opened up a 23-3 lead midway through the first half. The Golden Eagles continued their frantic pace and led 44-17 at the break. Brockport outshot the Bears 59 to 19 percent in the first 20 minutes.
The Golden Eagles didn’t slow down in the second half, shooting 55 percent from the floor. The Bears offense performed better in the final 20 minutes, upping their shooting to 30 percent, but it wasn’t enough to make up ground.
Senior forward Brad Drysdale closed out his Potsdam career with seven points and six rebounds and sophomore guard Greg Torchon added six more. Kyheem Green had 15 points for Brockport and Kazeem Are narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 12 boards.
In their final game with the Bears, senior guards Skip Schwartz and Wesley Francisco finished with three steals and two assists, respectively.
