Sophomore Brady Condlin recorded a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds but the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team was edged by Vassar College once again this season, this time by the score of 84-80 in double overtime in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The Brewers had five players reach double figures as the team improves to 7-13 and 3-8 in the Liberty League. Meanwhile, four Saints joined Condlin in double figures but it was not enough, as St. Lawrence falls to 8-12 on the season and 6-5 in the conference.
Junior Janpeter Brase had 13 points and 14 rebounds for the Saints, while senior Kyle Miller added 12 points. Juniors Al Jones and Payton Stahler added 11 points apiece. Stahler also grabbed 10 rebounds and was 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Curtis Smith had 16 points for Vassar, while Erikson Wasyl and Sam Rappaport added 14 apiece.
The score was tied on 12 different occasions and the lead changed hands 18 times during the game. A three-pointer from Wasyl with :05 left in regulation forced overtime.
In the second overtime, a layup by Condlin put the Saints up 80-79 with 2:17 remaining, however the Brewers scored five unanswered points down the stretch, all from free throws, to put the game away.
The Saints will take on Skidmore College on Tuesday in a game that could have major league playoff implications. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm in Saratoga Springs, NY.
