The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team suffered its second loss of the weekend, falling 77-74 in double overtime at Vassar College Saturday afternoon.

The Saints dropped to 0-2 in the Liberty League (9-3 overall) while the Brewers improve to 2-0 in the conference (7-5 overall).

"This was a tough weekend for us," said St. Lawrence Head Coach Dan Roiger. "We couldn't hold a lead for the second consecutive game in the final minute. We need to learn how to finish plays and execute under pressure. We have a good group of players and I expect them to bounce back with some tenacity."

First-year student Kelly Legg led the Saints with 21 points and nine rebounds, while junior co-captain Katie Edgerton contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Iris Santoni added 12 points and eight rebounds and first-year student Katie Abramski recorded nine points and 10 rebounds.

With the exception of two ties, the Saints led the entire game until the final minute of regulation when Vassar's Ali Higgins scored a 3-pointer to tie the game 58-58 with 23 seconds remaining. On the following possession, Vassar came up with a steal and called timeout with three seconds on the clock.

Out of the timeout, the ball was inbounded to Carolyn Crampton who nailed the jumper from the free throw line to seemingly win the game for Vassar. However, a technical foul on the Vassar bench for entering the court after Crampton's shot with .3 seconds remaining put Santoni on the line who sent the game to overtime with a pair of clutch free throws.

In the first overtime, Vassar maintained a lead until Legg hit a three-pointer with a minute left to even the score at 68-68 and take the game to a second overtime.

In the second overtime, Edgerton gave the Saints the lead on a pair of free throws, 70-68, but the Brewers regained a three point advantage at 73-70 with 2:19 remaining on an old-fashioned three point play and a layup. Abramski tied it at 73-73 with 2:01 to go on a lay-up and foul shot of her own.

Following several scoreless possessions, Crampton nailed the go-ahead 3-pointer with 41 seconds remaining and the teams swapped free throws in the final minute to close the game, 77-74.

The Saints will host Union College on Friday, January 21st for a conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
