Potsdam, NY – Michaela Boyle nearly matched her season's goal output on Tuesday alone, as the freshman left winger found the back of the net twice for the second-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team in a 4-1 non-league victory over Syracuse University in front of 282 fans at Cheel Arena.

Winners of 13 straight games, the Golden Knights improved to 24-3-1 on the season, while the Orange dropped to 9-16-2. Clarkson will return to ECAC Hockey play this weekend, facing conference rivals Brown and Yale.

Boyle entered the game with five points in 2017-18 on three goals and two assists through 24 games. Her two scores versus the Orange almost doubled her goal scoring output for the season and, more impressively, Tuesday's game was her first action in 10 days after missing the previous three league contests.

Syracuse had the better chances in the early going, nearly scoring in the first three minutes when Alysha Burriss picked up an errant pass off the boards and skated from the opposite blue line all the way down the ice with virtually no challenge from the Clarkson defenders. Burriss tried to score on Tiley's glove side but the senior netminder made the stop and then slapped away the bouncing puck to clear the Orange's scoring chance. Six minutes later the Knights did open the scoring when Michaela Boyle scored her fourth goal of the season. Senior Amanda Titus collected the puck at the near circle and found Taylor Turnquist open at the point, and Turnquist fired a pass through traffic, finding the stick of Boyle, who redirected the puck in the net at 8:26 for a 1-0 Clarkson lead.

Near the tail end of the first period, Clarkson added another goal for a 2-0 lead. Elizabeth Giguere and Michaela Pejzlova tipped the puck back and forth to one another in the near corner, but when Pejzlova found a little space she stepped out and whipped a pass through the slot to Loren Gabel, who capably finished off the pass on the opposite side of the crease at 17:44.

Syracuse ended a five-period scoreless streak against Clarkson early on in the second period, cutting the deficit in half at the 5:53 mark of the stanza. The puck was knocked around to the right of the net on the near side by both teams, but eventually leaked out to Savannah Rennie. The right winger then dropped a pass to Stephanie Grossi at the top of the circle, and Grossi harmlessly skated to the point and ripped a shot through traffic that squeaked past Tiley, who likely never saw the puck with skaters in front of her.

Clarkson responded less than two minutes later, regaining its two-goal advantage. Junior Kelly Mariani skated along the right side boards and found freshman Avery Mitchell all by herself a few steps inside the blue line. Mitchell took a shot that was stopped by Syracuse goaltender Abbey Miller, but Michaela Boyle knocked in the rebound at 7:25 for her second goal of the game and fifth of the season.

The Golden Knights tacked on an insurance goal late in the third period on a solid individual effort. Junior Rhyen McGill stole the puck near the blue line as Syracuse tried to clear the zone, and she calmly took a few strides to just inside the circle and wristed a shot to the far post at the 14:49 mark for her 13th goal of the year.

Shea Tiley picked up the win thanks to 26 saves, while Abbey Miller made 30 stops for Syracuse. Clarkson finished with a modest 34-27 edge in shots. Both team went scoreless on the power play, with the Knights going 0-for-2 and Syracuse coming up empty in its three chances.
