GENESEO, N.Y.—SUNY Geneseo (8-8, 5-3 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse tea (3-12, 5-3) 15-7 in the Bears' season finale. Senior captain Murphy Newman (Canton, N.Y./Berkshire School) led Potsdam with three goals, while sophomore midfielder Cayla O'Connor (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown), junior attack Morgan Cook (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and senior midfielder Michaela Cole (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) each recorded a goal and an assist.

The Blue Knights started the contest on a 4-0 run and led the Bears 9-3 at the half. Maddie Lee scored four goals and Erin Cregan added three in the opening 30 minutes for Geneseo. Sophomore midfielder Meaghan Paige (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) got the Bears on the board at 16:03. At 11:30, Newman scored with an assist from Cook. Cook netted her own marker with 1:02 on the clock.

The Blue Knights outscored Potsdam 6-4 in the second half, getting two more goals from Cregan and three from Hannah Millich. Newman notched her second at 27:20. Cole set up O'Connor at 19:02. Senior captain Katie Lapinksi (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) fed Newman to complete the hat trick at 6:30 and O'Connor assisted on Cole's goal with six seconds left to close the scoring.

Potsdam sophomore goalie Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) made 10 saves in the first 55:06. Sophomore Tatum Walber (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) stopped two shots in the last 4:54. Tess McFadden earned the win with four saves for Geneseo.

The contest was the final one for seniors Newman, Nicole Damon (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), Lapinski, Cole, Alyssa Ferenczy (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South), Mariah Pierce (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) and injured captain Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua).

Newman finishes her three seasons with the Bears as the program's fourth all-time leading scorer with 160 points on 137 goals and 23 assists. She ranks third in goals and ninth in assists. Lapinski ranks 10th on the scoring list with 100 points (57g, 43a). She also finishes sixth in assists and third in games started (55). Cole closes her career 14th in scoring with 69 goals and nine assists. Despite being limited to just a game and a half this season, Oschewske finishes second all-time in wins (15) and fourth in saves (362). Ferenczy scored 20 goals and added two assists along with 54 ground balls, 35 caused turnovers and 18 draw controls in 60 career games. Pierce posted 12 goals, two assists and 28 ground balls in 53 games. Damon scored five goals and added an assist in 24 games.

Junior attack Rachael Huntley (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) ranks eighth on the assists list with 24 through three seasons. O'Connor is seventh on the all-time list with 89 draw controls just midway through her career.
