GENESEO, N.Y.—SUNY Geneseo (18-6, 13-4 SUNYAC) defeated the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-23, 0-17) 71-28 on Friday night. Senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) led the Bears with nine points. McKenna Brooks had a game-high 16 points the Blue Knights and Dana Cohan chipped in 11 points.
Geneseo finished the opening quarter with a big run and led 23-5 after 10 minutes. Junior guard Meghan Driscoll (Troy, N.Y./Troy) had a layup and junior forward Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Malloy) sank a 3-pointer for Potsdam in the quarter.
The Blue Knights extended their advantage to 37-13 by the half. LaVoie had four points in the second quarter and freshmen guards Abbey Smith (Bainbridge, N.Y./Bainbridge-Guilford) and Secret Clark (Bronx, N.Y./NYC Charter for A.E.C.I.) had bucket apiece.
Geneseo outscored the Bears 16-9 in the third quarter for a 53-22 lead. LaVoie and Driscoll each hit threes Potsdam in the half's first 10 minutes.
The Blue Knights had another hot shooting quarter to close out the game with the 71-28 victory. Junior guard Abbey LaPage (North Bangor, N.Y./Franklin Academy) hit Potsdam's last three of the contest in the fourth quarter.
The Bears wrap up the season tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. when they head to Brockport.
