POTSDAM, N.Y.--- The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (5-8, 2-5 SUNYAC) fell to the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils (7-6, 4-2 SUNYAC) 66-50 on Saturday evening. The run by Fredonia in the third quarter which was credited to their jump shooting and defense. Freshman forward Devyn Elliott (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman) finished with 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Sophomore center Naya Walters (Bronx, N.Y./Women's Academy of Excellence) nearly finished with another double-double posting nine points and 13 rebounds.

The Blue Devils got off to a hot start in the first, hitting three of four shots behind the arc, which forced a Potsdam timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Fredonia continued their hot start when Lauren Mickley hit the team's fourth three pointer of the evening, and the Bears trailed 20-11 with 2:59 to go. The Bears kept themselves in the game with their offensive rebounding, as Elliott got an offensive rebound and finished through contact. Fredonia led Potsdam 24-19 after the first quarter.

The Blue Devils continued their efficiency early into the second quarter, attacking the Bears inside with success. Fredonia was able to attain a 10 point lead with three minutes remaining after free throws by Sarah Sweazy. However, both teams struggled after the early surge from the visitors, and relied on their free throw shooting. The Blue Devils led 35-27 at halftime.

The Bears started the third quarter with five quick unanswered points with a layup by freshman guard Dyamon Hunter (Bronx, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall Academy), followed by a three-pointer from the left wing by senior guard Riley Luckie (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg). The Blue Devils quickly responded with their own 7-0 run shortly after, with their pressure inside and outside shooting. Fredonia took a comfortable 13 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Potsdam's defense in the fourth quarter was key for their offense to start the quarter as they got back to back steals which led to shots inside by Elliott and junior guard Leah Giavatto (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) within the first minute of action. The Blue Devils were able to answer back by continuing to attack Potsdam inside and it led to a crucial 8-2. The Bears struggled to generate quality shots midway through the fourth quarter, and were unable to fight back into the game, and they fell 66-50.
