Blackburn leads Saints lady's swimming on Day one of Liberty League championships

Sophomore Alanna Blackburn had the top individual finish and helped the Saints to a pair of solid relay finishes on day one as the 2013 Liberty League Swimming and Diving Championships got underway at Union College on Friday.

Blackburn finished fourth in the 50 freestyle, swimming 25.02 for the lone individual top ten on the first day of competition. She was also part of the 200 free relay team which placed sixth in 1:43.66, nearly a two second improvement over their seed time. She joined Becca Raab, Kathryn Whittum and Nicole Leinders on the relay team.

The Saints are fifth in the competition after the first day in the pool with points. Rochester and RPI are first and second in both the women's and men's competition.

Blackburn joined Natalie Dellinger, Elizabeth Canne, and Katharina Weidhausser on the 400 medley relay team which finished fifth in 4:11.71.

Nikki Jewett was 11th with 288.40 points and Julie Hammond 12th with 284.0 in Friday's diving competition.

Gabriella Marchetti finished 11th in the 200 individual medley, swimming 2:18.70, a 2.2 second improvement over her seed time while Elizabeth Canne was 15th in 2:19.19 and Julia Carson scored with a 20th place finish.

Oliva Rettstatt finished 17th in 5:33.17 with Katharina Weidhausser and Julia Carson also scoring in 20th and 21st place in the 500 free.
