BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State (7-12, 3-9 SUNYAC) used a big second quarter run to pull away from the SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-17, 0-11) for a 70-40 win on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Meghan Driscoll (Troy, N.Y./Troy) led the Bears with 10 points and senior forward Katie LaVoie (Malone, N.Y./Franklin Academy) scored nine. Jordan Yastremski led the Bengals with 17 points and eight rebounds and Keyonte Edwards posted 16 points and 18 boards.

As in the teams' first meeting three weeks ago, the opening quarter was a back and fourth battle. The Bengals built leads of five and six points, but the Bears were able to answer. Freshman guard Secret Clark (Bronx, N.Y./NYC Charter for A.E.C.I.) scored seven points for Potsdam to go with a bucket from LaVoie and a 3-pointer from Driscoll. Buffalo State led 17-12 after 10 minutes.

A Driscoll free throw and a LaVoie three got the Bears to within 18-16 2:13 into the second quarter. However, the Bengals countered with a 17-0 run to close the half and take a commanding 35-16 lead into the locker room.

Freshman forward Victoria Shopovick (White Plains, N.Y./Maria Regina) got the Bears offense going in the third quarter with a free throw. Freshman guard Abbey Smith (Bainbridge, N.Y./Bainbridge-Guilford) followed with a layup and Driscoll hit a three as Potsdam split the first 12 points of the quarter with Buffalo State to make it a 41-22 contest. The Bengals then scored the next seven points before LaVoie ended the streak with a layup. Junior guard Abbey LaPage (North Bangor, N.Y./Franklin Academy) hit a 3-pointer for the Bears final points of the quarter. Grace Licata answered with a three and Buffalo State was up 53-27 after 30 minutes.

The Bengals outscored Potsdam 17-13 in the fourth quarter to close out the 70-40 victory. LaPage hit her second 3-pointer of the contest and junior guard Sidney Thompson (Akwesasne, N.Y./Massena) hit the first of her career. Driscoll chipped in three more points and LaVoie and sophomore forward Emily Drake (Athens, N.Y./Coxsackie-Athens) also hit field goals in the quarter.

The Bears begin a four-game homestand on Friday at 5:30 p.m. when they host SUNY New Paltz on Bear Pride Night.
