Geneseo sprinted out to a 4-0 lead in the first 13 minutes of the game and went on to a 13-5 NCAA Division III women's lacrosse victory over St. Lawrence in a game played at RIT on Saturday.
The Blue Knights improved to 4-0 on the season while the Saints dropped their fourth straight and will take a 1-4 overall mark into a 4 p.m. Tuesday game against Potsdam State at Hall-Leet Stadium.
Geneseo's Liz Felix, who had four goals in the game, keyed a run of three goals in 1:38 to help the Knights build an 8-1 lead and it was 11-1 at the half. The Saints outscored Geneseo 4-2 in the second half.
Sophomore Kiera Taussig scored four of the Saints' five goals in the game and also had five ground balls. Kayla Schmalz scored the other Saint goal on an assist by Abigail Owens. Julia Mitiguy had five ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers to aid in the Saint cause while goaltender Adden Cunningham had eight saves and six ground balls.
Claudia Coleates made three saves in the first half for Geneseo and earned the win while Laura Passamonte had four saves in the second half.
Geneseo had a 25-24 edge in shots while the Saints had 28 ground balls to 24 for the Knights. SLU was one for five on free position shots with Geneseo converting four of six. SLU went 12 for 19 on clears and each team had ten draw controls.
