Erica French scored one goal and assisted on another and St. Lawrence University's field hockey team scored three goals in a span of just over 12 minutes to end the first half en route a 4-1 win over Hartwick College in the Saints' home opener on Saturday.

The Saints dominated play in the first half, and while Hartwick put some pressure on in the second half, the Saints built a 4-0 lead before the Hawks finally broke through for their only goal of the game.

Sam Haab opened the scoring 23:26 into the game as she took a pass from Camille Burger and put the ball past Hartwick starting goalie Yanna Boggio from close range. French then scored her first of the season on a hard shot from right in front with Burger getting her second assist of the game 27:23 into the first half. Rookie Maggie Wraight then scored her first career goal as she worked her way through the defense and fired home a hard shot with 29 seconds to go in the half.

SLU made it a 4-0 game 5:56 into the second half when French set up Kara Pelosi for Pelosi's shot from in close.

Hartwick put some pressure on against the Saints midway through the second half, but the Saint defense came up big, stopping six consecutive penalty corners with just over 10 minutes to go with backup goalie Julia Hudson making five saves and getting a defensive save from Carly Dziekan.

The Hawks finally scored following a corner when Rebecca Reilly scored from the center of the circle with 1:34 to go in regulation time.

The Saints outshot Hartwick 19-17 overall, 9-3 in the first half with Hartwick getting 11 of 13 penalty corners in the second half. SLU had 10 corners, seven of them in the first half.

Junior Kim Haab earned the win in goal, but did not need to make a save in 41:56. Hudson stopped eight of nine shots she faced. Boggio had seven saves for Hartwick while backups Laura Downey and Shannon Carter also saw action with Carter making one save.
