St. Lawrence University's women's cross country team recorded its best finish ever at the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University on Saturday, finishing 14th overall and second among Division III teams in the 6 kilometer Women's Gold Race.

The Saints had four runners in the top 100 for the first time at Lehigh and Cassia Hameline had the fourth best finish in Saint history with a 58th place in 21:14, trailing only Wendy Pavlus (31st in 2009 and 22nd in 2010) and Jenna Hulton, who was 40th in 2009).

SLU finished with 494 points, 28 behind Harvard in the 38-team race. Johns Hopkins, the top ranked team in Division III was 10th, while Williams College was 21st. The University of Guelph won the Gold race with Georgetown second and Florida State third.

"It was a big day for the Saints," said SLU coach Mike Howard. "The team finish was our best ever and we had four ladies under 22 minutes, which is huge on this course. We beat Williams again and weren't too far off Hopkins."

Hameline led the sub 22-minute group of Saints with her 21:14, which trails only Pavlus' 2010 time of 21:06 among the all-time best Saint performances at Lehigh. Lisa Grohn was 14 seconds back, finishing 78th in 21:28 while Megan Kellogg ran 21:31 and finished 83rd, second among Division III rookies in the race. Anne Martino ran 21:37 and was 87th while Ashley Leta was the fifth Saint scorer, 188th overall in 22:30.

Anna Rabideau was the sixth Saint finisher in 22:42 and was 210th while Carrie Pomainville was the seventh Saint runner in 243rd, running 23:21.

Sophia Dastoli led a quartet of Saints who ran in the open race at Lehigh, finishing 206th in 24:58 while Hannah Fake was 241st in 25:30, Courtney Mullen 260th in 25:51 and India Harvey ran 26:17.

The Saints are now off until Oct. 25 when they will run in the NYSCTC Championships at Rochester.
