POTSDAM, N.Y.—Senior captain Anna-Rose Bertin (Marathon, Ontario/Canadian International Hockey Academy Hockey Academy) scored twice and sophomore goalie Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar's) made a season-high 40 saves as the SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (12-10-2, 4-9-2 NEWHL) defeated Oswego State (10-12-2, 6-8-1) 3-1 on Friday evening. Sophomore forward Lucy Condon (Kitchener, Ontario/Waterloo Ravens) scored the game-winning goal for the Bears. The victory matches the program's single-season wins mark of 12 for the second year in a row.

Lakers outshot Potsdam 11-7 in the opening period, but Oswego senior goalie Mariah Madrigal (Brownstown, Mich./Team Detroit) and Pfeiffer kept the game scoreless. The teams traded an unsuccessful power play apiece.

Bertin put the Bears in front for good at the 8:19 mark of the second period. Junior forward Tatum Walber (Orchard Park, N.Y./Buffalo Regals) fed Bertin at the top of the left faceoff circle and she rifled the puck into the top left corner of the net. Senior forward Taylor Marcellus (Waddington, N.Y./Ontario Hockey Academy) also assisted on the goal. Just over four minutes later, Condon made it 2-0 after taking an advantage of a neutral zone turnover. The Bears fired 15 shots on Madrigal in the period and Pfeiffer added another 14 saves to her total.

Bertin provided all the insurance Potsdam would need after knocking home a pass from sophomore defenseman Shelbi Thacker (Chesterfield, Mich./Honeybaked) at 12:09. With just 2:49 to play, Oswego freshman forward Jean-marie Padden (Cranford, N.J./New Jersey Rockets) finally solved Pfeiffer after a turnover at the right side of the net.

Madrigal stopped 26 shots on the night. The Lakers outshot the Bears 41-29. Both teams were 0-for-2 on the power play.

Prior to the game seniors Bertin, Marcellus, Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Team Detroit) and captain Brenna Wilson (Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators) were honored on Senior Night.

Potsdam wraps up the regular season at Oswego tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
