POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (5-9, 1-6 SUNYAC) fell to Buffalo State (12-1-2, 5-0-2 SUNYAC) on senior day, 1-0. Senior goalie Keagen Briggs (Peru, N.Y./Seton Catholic) finished the day with four saves.

Buffalo State held the advantage in shots, 6-1 over the first 45 minutes of play. Briggs made three saves and the Bengals' goalie Andreas Queen went untested between the posts. Buffalo State started to put the pressure on Potsdam in the closing minutes of the half, but the Bears defense kept them off the board and the teams were tied heading into the break.

Aggressive play ensued at the start of the second half with multiple fouls and yellow cards given. Bears got their best look, at the 18:50 minute mark. Senior captain Ritchie Hetherington (Falkirk, Scotland/Herkimer County C.C.) caught up with the ball just inside the box and fired a shot to the left of Queen, but he made a driving save to keep the game scoreless. The Bengals ended the tie game with the lone goal at 14:04. Buffalo State brought the ball up the near side and Ali Shawish made some room for himself. Shawish took the long shot that made a strange bounce in front of Briggs and snuck in just inside the left post. Potsdam's offense picked up following the goal, but the Bears couldn't find the back of the net and Buffalo State took the 1-0 win.

Queen finished one save in the victory. The Bengals led the Bears 14-7 in shots and in corner kicks, 3-1.

Prior to the game, nine seniors were honored including Briggs, Hetherington, Chris Schrum (Manhattan, N.Y./Millennium), Chris Mayrose (Akron, N.Y./Akron), Matthew Wagner (Bronxville, N.Y./Bronxville), Djavan Guy (New York City, N.Y./Saint John's Prep), Spencer Johnston (Valatie, N.Y./Hudson Valley C.C.), Brandon Laurin (Chazy, N.Y./Chazy) and Ebuka Ononye (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam).
