Norwood, NY – Another short course saw some of the Clarkson University Cross Country team's runners excel as AJ Beers and Sarah Duclos each finished in the top 10 at the Potsdam Invitational held at Norwood-Norfolk High School.

The Golden Knights' women placed third among the four teams 81 points, trailing St. Lawrence (23) and Plattsburgh State (34) but ahead of host SUNY Potsdam (105). The men also finished third with 74 points, behind St. Lawrence (20) and Plattsburgh State (51), but again ahead of the Bears (105).

Junior Sarah Duclos paced the Golden Knights at the 5,000-meter course, taking ninth out of 52 runners in 20:16.6, less than three seconds out of seventh overall. Senior Abigail Sullivan, who led the Knights last week, took 12th overall in 20:24.3, but she was the last Clarkson runner to finish in the top 20. Clarkson was bundled together in the next group of 10, though, as Erika Abrantes took 21st (21:13.2), Katie Ackner came in 22nd (21:23.8) and Taylor Lacey placed 23rd (21:28.6). Christina Tricomi (24th, 21:32.8) and Rachael Jones (27th, 21:47.2) rounded out Clarkson's top seven.

On the men's side, senior AJ Beers again was the frontrunner for Clarkson, taking seventh among 73 runners in 16:39.7. A pair of his classmates followed him, just a little further down the list, as Kris Lizins came in 13th in 16:49.9 and Jacob Erdman was 24th in 17:16.9. Clarkson's score was finished off by Dennis Mooney in 29th place with a time of 17:35.0 and Paul Moore in 30th in 17:39.7. Even if those two had been disqualified, Clarkson's score wouldn't have changed much, as Austin Smith came in 31st (17:41.3) and Jack Broderick took 33rd (17:42.1).
