Beccia wins another cross country event, sets SLU record

Senior Ariel Beccia won her third race of the season and set the St. Lawrence University record for the 6 kilometer Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course as the Saint women's cross country team finished second in the eight-team event on Saturday.

Beccia ran 21:45.72 for the third best time in the history of the course and the best for a SLU runner. She finished nearly seven seconds in front of Colleen Hennessy of the University of Toronto in a 101-runner field and her time was 20 seconds faster than the previous SLU record which was set by All America Wendy Pavlus in 2008.

The Saints finished second to Toronto in the team scoring as the Varsity Blues had four scorers in the top eight and finished with 34 points. The Saints were second with 53 with Cortland third with 61. Plattsburgh finished fourth followed by LeMoyne, Clarkson, SUNY Canton and Potsdam State.

Senior Amy Cymerman was the second SLU finisher, third overall in 22:11.31 with Anne Martino finishing 12th in 23:20.77, Kelsey Leder 18th in 24:03.59 and Lisa Grohn completed the Saint scoring with a 19th place finish in 24:10.31. Toria Koutras was 22nd in 24:18.13 and Melanie Swick rounded out the Saint top seven with a 24th place finish in 24:18.69.

Other Saint finishers included Anna Rabideau, who was 29th in 25:14.54 with Lydia Vogt 30th in 25:14.68, Kate Sneden 33rd in 25:26.44 and Madeline Funk 38th in 25:41.89. Mary Beth Benzing finished 46th in 26:13.04, Emily von Loesecke was 52nd in 26:27.57, Claire Pacione 53rd in 26:30.72, Katie Mannix 55th in 26:35.68, Jenny van Ooyen was 63rd in 27:08.23, Courtney Mullen 67th in 27:19.08, Madeline Woods 68th in 27:26.983, Natalie Casey-Sanger 70th in 27:38.26, Kendra Sultzer 71st in 27:38.50, Isabel Bogacz was 72nd in 27:55.17 and Rachel Waldrop was 77th in 28:17.74.

The Saints will return to action at the NYSCTC Championship at Hamilton on Oct. 26.
