Beccia paces Saints women at Paul Short Invitational

Senior Ariel Beccia led St. Lawrence University's women's cross country to a 44th place finish in the high-powered 47-team Paul Short College Women's Gold race as part of the Paul Short Invitational Cross Country meet at Lehigh on Saturday.

Beccia ran the 6 kilometer course in 21:51 to finish 98th as an individual in the 406 runner field and the Saints were third among Division III teams in the field. Georgetown edged Dartmouth for the women's Gold team title with Villanova third in a field dominated by Division I programs.

Beccia was joined among Saint scorers by Amy Cymerman, who finished 165th in 22:22, Anne Martino, 254th in 23:09, Toria Koutras, who was 299th in 23:51 and Lisa Grohn, who finished 307th in 24:11. Kelsey Leder was the sixth Saint runner, finishing 322nd in 25:10 under sunny and hot conditions.

The Saints, ranked 10th nationally in Division III will host the Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational Saturday Oct. 12.
