POTSDAM, N.Y.—Fresh of its first SUNYAC playoff win in program history, the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (14-3-1) remains the No. 10 team in this week's United Soccer Coaches' NCAA Division III Women's East Regional Poll. The Bears have now been ranked in five of the past six weeks.

Tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m., Potsdam will face the No. 9 team in SUNY Cortland (10-4-2) on the road in the SUNYAC Semifinals. Tickets for the contest are $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and free for students attending SUNYAC schools with school ID. The ticket window opens at 2 p.m.

In the conference quarterfinals last Saturday, Potsdam hit the turf on a mission and never let SUNY Fredonia into the game, winning a 5-0 victory. Freshman forward Mackenzie Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) scored twice, while senior midfielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and sophomore forward Lexi Dean (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) each recorded a goal and an assist. Senior forward Olivia Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton) also scored for the Bears and junior and senior goalkeepers Delphine Léonard (Anjou, Quebec/Dawson College Prep) and Karlee Burdick (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) combined for the shutout.

Historically, Potsdam has struggled against the Red Dragons with Cortland winning the first 28 meetings. That changed in 2015 as former Bears captain and current assistant coach Kaylen Van Wagner '17 scored in Cortland to give the Bears a 1-0 victory. The following year, Jaci Morr '18 and Seamans erased a 2-0 lead at home before bowing 3-2. Falsion had the game-tying goal waved off in the 89th minute as she was ruled offsides. In 2017, Potsdam claimed a 2-1 victory in Cortland on goals from senior midfielder Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) and Morr.

This season in Potsdam on Oct. 5, the Bears jumped out in front of Cortland on an own goal by the Red Dragons just 1:18 into the game. However, Cortland senior midfielder Casey Schmitt (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Mount Sinai) countered with a goal in the 19th minute. The Bears controlled the play in the second half and the Red Dragons did the same in the first overtime, but the teams settled for the 1-1 draw.

After a slow start, Cortland is 8-2-1 in its last 11 games, and is currently on a four-game winning streak. The Red Dragons' offense is averaging, just 1.44 goals-per-game, compared to Potsdam's 2.94. Cortland's defense is nearly even with the Bears, giving up just 0.78 goals-per-game to the Potsdam's 0.77. Potsdam has eight shutouts on the season, including last Saturday's, and the Red Dragons have blanked opponents six times.

Potsdam holds the series edge over the last four seasons with a 2-1-1 record and a 2-0 in Cortland, but tomorrow's game will be a toss-up with a trip to the SUNYAC Championship on the line.
