POTSDAM, N.Y.--- The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (13-3-1, 6-2-1 SUNYAC) closed out their regular season in winning fashion as they downed the SUNY Fredonia Blue Devils (7-10-1, 3-5-1) on Senior Day. The Bears offense was aggressive for the full 90 minutes and it showed in their 44 shots. Senior forward Amber Hyatt (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and sophomore defender Maeve Morrissey (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) each scored and senior midfielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) finished with a goal and an assist. Bears junior goalkeeper Delphine Léonard (Anjou, Quebec/Dawson College Prep) made three saves for her 13th career victory.

The win was Potsdam's 13th of the season overall and sixth in conference play, both program single-season records. Falsion tied the Bears' goals record with the 45th of her career. With Cortland's 1-0 victory over Brockport this afternoon, Potsdam will be the No. 3 seed in next weekend's SUNYAC Tournament.

Potsdam created several opportunities in the first half shooting from all different ranges. One came at the 39:22 mark when Falsion slid the ball on goal in close, but right in the hands of Blue Devil goalie Abbey Monahan (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw). Despite their numerous opportunities to take the lead, the Bears couldn't get over the hump early due to numerous great saves by Monahan. With the half ticking down, Morrissey drove the ball into a crowd of players in front of the net. Falsion was then able to locate the ball and shoot, but hit the crossbar. Hyatt got the rebound and scored to secure the Bears first half lead with just 56 seconds left.

Although Potsdam continued to bring pressure, Monahan carried her great defense from the first half into the second. Monahan stopped two attempts from sophomore forward Lexi Dean (Schenectady, N.Y./Mohonasen) to open the period. Much like the first half, the Bears aggressiveness on offense led to another goal. Falsion scored with a Fredonia defender on her after a perfect cross from freshman forward Mackenzie Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville) on the left. Fredonia answered four minutes later. After a free kick from freshman midfielder Sophie Richiusa (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield), sophomore defender Lauren Cullinan (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) came in from the right side to score at 64:36 and cut the lead in half. Potsdam countered a few minutes later. After freshman midfielder Kristina Sanchez (Averill Park, N.Y./Averill Park) was awarded a corner kick, Morrissey tipped the ball with her right foot off a deflection and into the net at 67:29 for her first collegiate goal. Potsdam's defense slammed the door the rest of the way.

Monahan totaled 17 saves for Fredonia. The Bears outshot the Blue Devils 44-8 and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Prior to the game, the Bears honored seniors Sarah Erno (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville), Lauren Vedete (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford), Hyatt, Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley), Falsion, Olivia Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton), Karlee Burdick (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) and Rachael Venne (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) for their careers. The group has seen multiple team and individual records broken and with 43 total victories is easily the winningest class in the program's 32-year history.

The two teams will square off again at 1 p.m. next Saturday as the Blue Devils come into the conference tournament as the sixth seed.
