Bears women's soccer blanked at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, MASS.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (2-2) fell 6-0 to Wellesley College (2-2-1) in the second game of the Wellesley Invitational on Sunday afternoon. Emily Wilson scored twice for the Blue.

Jennifer Marble opened the scoring at the 16:10 mark of the first half, redirecting a shot from Kara Lungmus. Just 55 seconds later Wilson gave Wellesley a 2-0 advantage with high shot from the top of the box. Lena Cardoso buried a rebound at 34:32 and the Blue led 3-0 at the break.

Wellesley kept up the pressure in the second half. Wilson notched her second on a cross from Chelsea-Ann Patry almost 10 minutes into the final period. At the 65:52 mark, Patry set up Abigail Hess and 10 minutes later Juliette Fry capped the scoring at 6-0.

In goal, freshman Shannon Weader played the first 53:31 for the Bears, stopping three shots and allowing three goals. Freshman Jaime Durant was in the net for the final 36:29, making four saves and giving up the final three goals. Claire Cerda played the first half for the Blue and finished with one save. Kat Goldsmith was in goal for the final 45 minutes and didn't face a shot.

Potsdam is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when the Bears host St. Lawrence at 5 p.m.
