POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam senior women's lacrosse players Emily Petit (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) and Bailey Weigel (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) have been named to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference third team. Petit earns the honor for the second year in a row and Weigel for the second time in three seasons.
This year Petit, a defensive midfielder and team captain, scored seven goals and added four assists for 11 points. She was third in the SUNYAC in ground balls (46) and 10th in caused turnovers (22). Over her four seasons, Petit totaled 33 goals and 15 assists for 48 points. She ranks as the program's all-time leader in ground balls (170), caused turnovers (86) and games-started (57) and is sixth in draw controls (81).
Weigel helped lead the offense from the attack position during her three seasons. This year, she started all 16 contests and was second in scoring with 33 goals and 22 assists for 55 points. She set the Bears' single-season draw control record with 116, good for second best in the SUNYAC and seventh in the nation. Weigel closes her career as one of the program's all-time best. She is fourth in scoring with 143 points, fifth in goals (89), third in assists (54) and first in draw controls (324). She was also an All-SUNYAC selection for women's basketball this season.
Potsdam was 5-11 in 2015, losing a tiebreaker for the final spot in the conference playoffs.
