FREDONIA, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (4-8, 1-5 SUNYAC) fell on the road to Fredonia State (13-0, 5-0), 18-4 Saturday afternoon. Rachael Reinis had a game-high six goals to lead the Blue Devils. Senior attack Whitney Boshart recorded two markers. Sophomore midfielder Margaret Wall and freshman midfielder Brittany Blake each notched a goal to round out the Potsdam scorers.

Fredonia opened the scoring with a marker by Reinis 38 seconds into the contest. Erin Edson added to a 4-0 Blue Devil run with two goals of her own. Wall put Potsdam on the board at the 17:34 mark. Shortly after, Boshart notched a tally to cut the Fredonia lead to 4-2. Yet, the Blue Devils went on another four-goal spurt to create some separation with nine minutes remaining in the half. Blake ended the Bears drought at the 6:07 mark to cut the deficit. Marissa Cussins would add one more goal to the Blue Devil lead to claim a 9-3 advantage at the half.

Fredonia continued to maintain pressure on the Potsdam defense in the second half. Reinis sparked the offensive barrage in the final stanza with three straight goals in a seven-minute span. The Blue Devils continued their nine-goal run over the next 20 minutes. With 1:51 remaining, Boshart received a pass from sophomore attack Bailey Weigel to halt the Bears drought. Fredonia would then run out the clock to claim the 18-4 decision.

In goal, junior Jen Chmiel finished with nine saves for Potsdam. Casey Chiesa made three saves on seven shots on goal.

The Blue Devils outshot the Bears 37-7 and edged Potsdam in ground balls (26-21) and draw controls (19-5).

Potsdam returns home on Tuesday, April 23 against SUNY Cortland at 4 p.m.
